DENTIST REFERRALS

Specialist Gum Care

Periodontitis (gum disease) is a serious disease that, according to the British Society of Periodontology, affects around 10% of the population.

Treating Gum Disease

Gum treatment or periodontal disease is treated by periodontics which is the management and treatment of the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth. Gum disease may be the result of a number of factors such as heredity, diet, lack of oral hygiene, smoking, environmental factors, or other habits. It may affect one tooth or a number of teeth. Gum disease may be the result of a gradual loss of support around the teeth over a long period, or it may occur suddenly.

Sometimes our patients need specialist care to help them combat the more advanced form of gum disease, periodontitis. This can cause symptoms including sore, swollen and bleeding gums and bad breath, and can eventually lead to tooth loss.

Everyone is susceptible to gum disease, and if not treated, the condition is progressive and may also affect your general health. Fortunately for the vast majority of patients, periodontal treatment is very successful and their natural teeth can be maintained for many years.

Rest assured that we only offer the most effective, scientifically proven, evidence-based treatment options in order to you to help retain and restore you natural teeth.
