Don’t Ignore Your Overdue Dental Check-Up!

Don’t Ignore Your Overdue Dental Check-Up!

Although a visit to the dentist is unlikely to be top of your list of favourite things to do, it’s essential to attend check-ups and make sure your mouth is in good working order. Here we list four reasons why attending your overdue check-up is so important:

Monitor oral health

The primary reason for a dental check-up is for your dentist to have a look at your teeth and gums and advise of any improvements you can make to your oral health and hygiene. This may be as simple as discussing the best methods with which to brush your teeth or the importance of interdental cleaning. It all makes a difference!

Spotting issues early

Attending a scheduled check-up is an essential opportunity for your dentist to identify potential problems you may have with your teeth, including tartar build-up and the onset of cavities. Catching these issues early not only allows your dentist to implement preventative measures or treatment, but can save an awful lot of pain in the long term.

Checking on previous work

If you underwent a dental procedure during your last visit to the dentist, such as a filling, crown fitting or dental implant, it’s important to attend a follow up check-up to make sure that the treatment was successful. Your dentist will make sure that your teeth and gums have healed properly and that there are no signs of further issues, pain or infection.

Preventing gum disease

Early symptoms of Gum Disease can be detected and easily treated if discovered before the condition gets worse. So if your gums are sensitive, bleed when you brush or there is a history of gum disease in your family, attending a regular check-up with your dentist is the best way to avoid long-term conditions such as tooth loss and periodontitis.
